Agreeing on a Reality

There is a natural tendency toward discrepancy when multiple participants attempt to role-play within a fantastic setting. In a role-play platform such as a MUD, where constant administration is not present (nor plausible), this problem can become increasingly pronounced.

The more documentation, or material, available on a fantastic world, the easier it will be for players to agree on the details within. But then, of course, how can one possibly even hope to provide the exhaustive amount of reference material needed to cover every possible disputable aspect that may come up in-game.

To minimize potential disagreements, the DH staff will attempt to provide as much reference material, and as much guidance, as possible. If you ever have a question about the game world, please do not hesitate to ask. The discussion boards are an excellent place for these sorts of clarification requests.

Be aware, that creating your own answers to unanswered questions about the world might lead to false information.

It's a difficult problem. On one hand, in playing DH, you will be forced to 'go with the flow' in many situations, and at times you may have to 'make up' things that your character should know, but you, as a player, do not.

On the other hand, the world of DH is a very carefully constructed one, and at no time will a player's interpretation be accepted over that of Dark Horizon's creator, even if that interpretation covers an aspect not yet covered in documentation.

In short, we as a staff will try to minimize the problem through describing and explaining as much as we can. As players, we ask you to review all the reference material available to you, and to be gracious, should a disagreement between two or more players, or between a player and an admin ever arise.

And lastly, we ask you to understand that if there is a disagreement between a player and an admin regarding the reality of the game, the admin is always right. This is not done to be mean, or controlling. This is the way it is, so that the game may grow as its creators wish it to.

We don't claim to be perfect, we just claim to be in charge. Ideally, this can be done without getting in the way of anyone's fun.
